Travel Alert

I would love to be able to discuss hotels and restaurants today, but there is a travel alert that you must be aware of. We normally review hotel and restaurants worldwide, but today, we must discuss the events happening in the Middle East. Our embassies in Libya and Egypt have come under attack, and the ambassador in Libya has been murdered, along with three staff members. They were gunned down in the street like dogs. So if you are planning travel to any Muslim countries. You should probably cancel it immediately for your own safety. If they can kill the ambassador, what chance do you think you would have. The Obama administration will not take any action to assist you. Should you run into trouble. You're basically on your own. So traveler beware.

Hotel Selection

When planning your vacation or your honeymoon or even your business trip it is important that you select the proper hotel.

It is very simple to determine which hotel to stay at. Do you want economy? Do you want convenience? Do you want security? If you are looking for the cheapest hotel there are probably many in the location you are going but the question is would you be happy there. Many cheap hotels look good on the Internet and even in person when you drive up to the location the story is really what is on the inside ? You may save money, but end up with a less than desirable accommodation with worn carpet and dirty sheets possibly bedbugs and a lack of security. You must consider all these possibilities.

If you choose a more expensive hotel there are some definite advantages , such as the many amenities they will offer you for example a swimming pool and spa, refrigerator, microwave in your room free coffee service and a spotless room with no bedbugs the choice is up to you. . Check with your travel agent for package deals at star rated hotels.

Intercontinental Hotel, Miami

Recently, I had some business at the German Consulate in Miami. So I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel, which is located across the street only minutes from the consulate.

I highly recommend this hotel, which is located at 100 Chopin Plaza. We had a very nice room located on 24th floor of the hotel . It was a great view of the downtown area , especially at night. You are only a short walk from the marketplace, which consist of shops , restaurants and nightclubs.

During my stay at the hotel I needed some documents faxed to me from an international location the concierge assisted me in obtaining these documents by fax . He was indeed a great help. . I found the entire staff from housekeeping to the front desk very knowledgeable and courteous they try to make your stay a memorable experience. . Without their help I would not have been able to finish my business on time and would have to have made another trip to Miami from Orlando.

The hotel has a pool and spa for your convenience and also a restaurant in the main lobby and a Starbucks coffee shop. if you have to conduct any business in downtown Miami , I highly recommend the Intercontinental Hotel.

Restaurant Ownership

Many people dream of owning their own restaurant and think that their idea will make them a lot of money.

The restaurant business is one of the most competitive in the world and also has a record of complete failures. You may think that you have a great business plan or a new product such as grandma's recipe and that is all you need for success. But there is a lot more needed than this.

First you must pick a great location for your restaurant sometimes they do not come cheap. There are many hidden cost when opening a restaurant that you do not realize until you start. For example the cost of equipment, permits and licensing, employees and inventory just to mention a few. One of the major expenses that many people do not consider is advertising. Anything from handbills to television are expensive. Another example would be signage just to put up a sign on the outside of your business is very expensive. Don't give up your dream but you must research it thoroughly from every angle to know what you're getting into and make sure you have enough funds to sustain you for at least a year.

Comfort Inn & Suites

While returning from a great time at Mardi Gras I was looking for a hotel to spend the night and continue on to Orlando the next day.

While driving on Interstate 10 I noticed many advertisements on the billboards for hotels at exit 56. This is also the exit for Crestview Florida. I took this exit and was pleasantly surprise that there were many hotels to choose from. All the major chains were represented such as Holiday Inn express, the Hampton Inn, Motel Eight, and the Comfort Inn and Suites.

After investigating the prices at several of the hotels I settled on the Comfort Inn and Suites. The reason being the hotel was only three years old and for the price of $69 a night plus tax which came to $73.14. The hotel offered a free breakfast, and free Wi-Fi, plus a mini fridge and microwave. The room was quite comfortable it had two queen-size bed and I like the high ceilings. The hotel is also located near all the major fast food restaurants plus a super Walmart. I also like the fact that I was only about 140 miles from Tallahassee which is almost halfway to Orlando. If you are traveling on I- 10 and are looking for a clean economical place to stay I would recommend the Comfort Inn and Suites located right off of exit 56.

The Isle

I have recently returned from a three-day trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A very beautiful and friendly place.

While there I stayed at the Isle Casino and resort and enjoyed it very much. The hotel and casino are located in Biloxi Mississippi in an area they call the point. The hotel sits right on the bay of Biloxi overlooking Dear Island and the Biloxi Bay Bridge. The room I had was very nice with great views and a large balcony where you could watch the sunrise or sunset while drinking your coffee. There is a breakfast lunch and dinner buffet for your convenience that is reasonably priced or you may eat in the Café which is a small cozy restaurant with great views of the bay also. Another plus for the hotel is there is free Wi-Fi throughout the complex. On another trip we stayed at a larger hotel and casino located just a few miles from the Isle and there was no free Wi-Fi provided in the rooms you had to pay for it and it was poor reception. You could go to their coffee shop downstairs that was the only way you could access the Wi-Fi. The entire staff of the hotel are very friendly and knowledgeable. If you are planning a trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast I would highly recommend the Isle Casino and Resort. Check with your travel agent as they have honeymoon packages and also golf packages available.

Tomorrow land

I have a annual pass to Disney World which I enjoy using very much being a resident of Florida I find I save a lot of money by not paying at the gate. The pass is limited to visits during the week but is okay as weekends are very crowded usually.

On this visit I went to the Magic Kingdom and my first stop was Tomorrowland as many times as I have been to Disney World I never stopped at Tomorrowland. I enjoyed the Carousel of Progress which is a travel through time in a building that rotates. The people mover which takes you through the entire world and points out the various points of interest was also very enjoyable. The Speedway ride was also a lot of fun for both the kids and adults.

We had a late lunch in the Cosmic Ray 's Starlite Café this is a very unique restaurant. When you enter the restaurant you have three different menus to choose from. They are located at three different counters numbered 1,2 and 3 they all offer various fast food items from burgers to soups and sandwiches. I ordered some chili cheese fries and was pleasantly surprised they were very good but most impressive was the condiment bar they have to spice up your meal. On this bar you will find the usual lettuce and tomato but they also had such items as mushrooms chopped onions and hot cheese sauce to add to your burger or fries if you so desire. The efficiency and service of the employees was very good. So while visiting the Magic Kingdom be sure to check out the restaurant Starlite Café in Tomorrowland you won't be disappointed.

Princess Hotel Barcelona

A few years ago while visiting Barcelona I stayed at the Princess Hotel. It was quite nice but I thought the location was a little too far outside the main city limits. The rooms were nice but they do try to charge you for all the little extras they actually charge you for ice.

The hotel is located near the beach and does have great views of the sea and the city. There is a swimming pool located on the 23rd floor and saunas and Jacuzzi on the third floor. Like I said before the hotel is located quite far from the tourist areas but there is a great Metro connection with the downtown Barcelona area. The free mini bars in the rooms are a nice touch. So when traveling to the city of Barcelona I would highly recommend the Princess Hotel.

The Po-Boy Sandwich

Pizza Lake Eloa Orlando

This Saturday I went to a parade in downtown Orlando I believe it used to be called the Orange Parade it was a nice parade with the usual firetrucks police on motorcycles and floats made up entirely of citrus.

On my way back to the parking lot we decided to have a pizza at a little café near Lake Eloa this café was located just down the street from the Public's supermarket. I can't give you the name of the restaurant because the only sign I saw said pizza. I ordered a Hawaii pizza with mushrooms it was a thin crust pizza and very good.

The menu in this place was really surprising they had things that you would find in a full Italian restaurant again I repeat the food was very good. There was a large crowd inside also coming from the parade but the staff did a good job on waiting on everybody. They also have an outside dining area with about 4or 5 tables at the entrance. The price of the meal also quite reasonable 10inch pizza a bowl of Italians soup and two drinks for $19. So if you are in the downtown area near the Publix super market I would recommend this small pizzeria.
